What Does a Steam Shower Enclosure Cost in San Diego?

A steam enclosure in San Diego runs $3,200 to $7,800 for the glass and hardware. The generator, tile, waterproofing, and electrical are separate trades. The glass is rarely the expensive part of a steam room, but it is the part that decides whether the room actually gets hot.

What Drives Steam Enclosure Cost

ItemAdded CostWhy
Transom and venting hardware+$350 to +$800A steam room needs to vent when you are done or it grows mold. The transom is the mechanism.
Drop-down sweep and magnetic seal+$180 to +$450The two parts that actually hold steam at the door.
Ceiling height over 96 inches+$300 to +$700Taller glass needs thicker panels and heavier hardware.
Low-iron glass+$250 to +$600Steam rooms are usually bright. Green edges are obvious.
Ceiling slope correction+$250 to +$600Condensate has to run away from the door. If the ceiling is flat or sloped the wrong way, that gets fixed first.

What a Steam Quote Must Cover

Why Most Steam Rooms Fail

An ordinary shower enclosure with a generator bolted on

Steam escapes at the top and the room never gets hot. Full-height glass with a transom is not optional.

Gaps at the hinge side

The hinge edge is the usual leak. A sealed jamb detail is the difference between a steam room and a warm shower.

No way to dry out

A sealed box holds moisture after use. A timer on the exhaust fan is not a luxury, it is what stops the room from growing mold between sessions.

A drain that cannot handle the volume

Steam produces condensate faster than a standard shower drain expects. We flag it if the drain looks undersized.

Steam Timeline

Site review and quote within a few days. Template after tile and waterproofing are finished and cured. Fabrication is 12 to 20 business days for a sealed full-height unit. Install is a full day, and we run the generator to find leaks before calling it done.

Pricing Questions

Can I add steam to my existing shower?

Sometimes. It depends on ceiling height, whether the walls can be sealed, the drain size, and where the generator sits. A retrofit is usually more invasive than people expect because the waterproofing has to be right.

Does the enclosure include the steam generator?

No. Our scope is glass, hardware, and sealing. The generator, electrical, tile, and waterproofing are separate trades, and we say so in writing so there is no confusion later.

Why does my steam room never get hot?

Almost always because the enclosure leaks steam at the top or the hinge side. A standard shower enclosure with a glass panel to 78 inches will not hold steam no matter how big the generator is.

Do steam rooms need a special coating?

Yes. Steam plus hard water is the harshest combination for glass. We recommend a factory coating on every steam panel, and a squeegee routine after each session.
